Wow...what a busy month June has been for Year 3! There has been lots of special events and trips that we have all enjoyed so much.
Even though the weather wasn't very kind to us, it didn't stop us having lots of fun on our trip to Leighton Hall in Carnforth. We loved learning how to 'Live Like Cavemen' as we took part in tool making, charcoal art, fire starting, food hunting and den building!
Thank you to all of the parents who were able to attend our Sports Day...and it was the red team who came out victorious in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2! The children in Year 3 all competed so brilliantly and cheered their own team on. All of our hard work in PE practising for the different running, throwing and jumping events really paid off!
We also welcomed in lots of different visitors during Health Week as the children in Year 3 took part in UV dodgeball, yoga and taekwondo to name just a few! They were excellent representatives for Baines as the visitors all commented how well behaved the children were.
Earlier on in the month Year 3 held an amazing Roman day in class! They all looked fabulous dressed up in their Roman outfits! We spent the morning preparing for battle by making shields and swords then we did some serious training. The children marched around the playground with weights and worked in groups to make different battle formations. Next came some target practise with javelins and then some defending and attacking work with swords and shields. It was really hard work being a Roman soldier!
We must also mention just how many children turned up to ride our school's lorry in Thornton Gala! Year 3 had lots of children on the lorry waving to the crowds on the day! I must also thank the class for all of their hard work making the flowers and summer pictures for the lorry...we won first place in the schools' section!!
In History we have really enjoyed learning about why the Romans invaded and settled in Britain. Remember to ask your child about the Celtic revolt that was led by Boudicca and whether they would like to be a Roman soldier or not. The girls were horrified to hear that they would have been married at 12 years of age under Roman rule! We have shared lots of fascinating facts from our Roman information books and this has linked in with non-fiction writing in English.
Also, as part of our 'Plants and Reproduction' topic we have worked really hard on the outside environment in school to get rid of the huge amount of weeds. What a difference we have made - everyone has noticed!
Baines’ Got Talent took place at Millfield earlier in the month - we were really proud of Lilian, Alice and Freya (who performed an amazing gymnastic routine together) and Penelope (who sang a beautiful solo).
To celebrate VE Day we had a school picnic on the field, decorated the classroom with bunting and had a special assembly.
