🎵 Music
In music, we have been practising our songs in preparation for Lancashire Sing, where the children will have the exciting opportunity to perform in front of parents and guardians. They have shown great enthusiasm and confidence as they rehearse together.
📚 English
In English, we have been thoroughly enjoying our class text Stig of the Dump. The children have produced some fantastic work inspired by the story, and their enthusiasm and creativity have really shone through.
🎨 Art
In art, we have been exploring 3D shapes and abstract art. The children have enjoyed experimenting with different forms and ideas, creating imaginative and expressive pieces.
December has been a fun filled and busy month in Year 3, with lots of exciting activities and fantastic learning taking place ✨.
We enjoyed several special days, including a wonderful school trip to the pantomime to watch Beauty and the Beast 🎭, which the children absolutely loved. We also had a great time at the KS2 Christmas Party, where everyone enjoyed celebrating together. In our final couple of days, we relaxed by watching Christmas movies 🎬🎄, and we ended the term by celebrating the children’s fantastic effort with homework celebration, which they should be very proud of⭐.
In PE, the children completed their dodgeball 🤾♂️ and gymnastics 🤸♀️ units. They finished by performing a gymnastics sequence, showing excellent teamwork, balance and control 👏
In English, we finished our unit by writing our own Aesop’s Fables ✍️📖, based on a whole-class effort. The children worked hard to create engaging stories with clear morals.
In Maths, we completed our learning on shape and telling the time ! ⏰🟥
It has been a lovely end to the term, and we are very proud of all the hard work and enthusiasm shown by Year 3 this December 🌟
We all wish you a Merry Christmas! 🎅🎄✨
November has been a wonderfully busy and exciting month in Year 3! In Art 🎨, we have been learning how to draw using a range of techniques, including shading to create light, shadow and texture. The children have enjoyed experimenting with different pencils, practising blending, and discovering how small details can bring their artwork to life.
In PE 🤾, dodgeball has been a huge hit! Year 3 have been developing their agility, teamwork and strategic thinking as they dodge, aim and work together in fast paced games. Their confidence and coordination have grown brilliantly over the term.
As part of Great Britain Day 🧪, we stepped back in time to the era of the plague. The children became creative potion-makers, designing imaginative ‘cures’ and exploring how people in the past tried to tackle illness.
In Maths ➕➖✖️➗, we have not only been learning to tell the time ⏰, including reading analogue clocks and understanding intervals, but we’ve also been working hard on division. The class has enjoyed using practical methods, sharing objects into equal groups and tackling division problems with growing confidence.
Our Geography topic 🌋 has been a favourite this term. Year 3 have been fascinated by volcanoes, learning how they form and why people choose to live near them despite the risks.
It has been a month full of creativity, curiosity and enthusiasm across all subjects and we are incredibly proud of Year 3’s hard work and excitement for learning 🌟.
What a busy and exciting first month back we’ve had in Year 3!
🔬 Science
This term we’ve been learning all about rocks and soils. The children especially enjoyed heading outdoors for some hands on fossil hunting, a brilliant way to bring our learning to life!
📖 English
In English, we’ve been diving into the world of Paddington Bear. Together, we have been reading and watching the story of Paddington, analysing the characters and themes. The children have been working hard on their own creative writing, imagining what it would be like if Paddington took a trip to Blackpool, we’ve had some fantastic ideas!
🎨 DT
Over in DT, we’ve been planning and designing our very own Taj Mahal models. The children have carefully thought about their designs and are excited to start creating them very soon.
✨ It’s been a wonderful start to the year! Full of curiosity, creativity and fun. We can’t wait to see what October brings!
Wow...what a busy month June has been for Year 3! There has been lots of special events and trips that we have all enjoyed so much.
Even though the weather wasn't very kind to us, it didn't stop us having lots of fun on our trip to Leighton Hall in Carnforth. We loved learning how to 'Live Like Cavemen' as we took part in tool making, charcoal art, fire starting, food hunting and den building!
Thank you to all of the parents who were able to attend our Sports Day...and it was the red team who came out victorious in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2! The children in Year 3 all competed so brilliantly and cheered their own team on. All of our hard work in PE practising for the different running, throwing and jumping events really paid off!
We also welcomed in lots of different visitors during Health Week as the children in Year 3 took part in UV dodgeball, yoga and taekwondo to name just a few! They were excellent representatives for Baines as the visitors all commented how well behaved the children were.
Earlier on in the month Year 3 held an amazing Roman day in class! They all looked fabulous dressed up in their Roman outfits! We spent the morning preparing for battle by making shields and swords then we did some serious training. The children marched around the playground with weights and worked in groups to make different battle formations. Next came some target practise with javelins and then some defending and attacking work with swords and shields. It was really hard work being a Roman soldier!
We must also mention just how many children turned up to ride our school's lorry in Thornton Gala! Year 3 had lots of children on the lorry waving to the crowds on the day! I must also thank the class for all of their hard work making the flowers and summer pictures for the lorry...we won first place in the schools' section!!
In History we have really enjoyed learning about why the Romans invaded and settled in Britain. Remember to ask your child about the Celtic revolt that was led by Boudicca and whether they would like to be a Roman soldier or not. The girls were horrified to hear that they would have been married at 12 years of age under Roman rule! We have shared lots of fascinating facts from our Roman information books and this has linked in with non-fiction writing in English.
Also, as part of our 'Plants and Reproduction' topic we have worked really hard on the outside environment in school to get rid of the huge amount of weeds. What a difference we have made - everyone has noticed!
Baines’ Got Talent took place at Millfield earlier in the month - we were really proud of Lilian, Alice and Freya (who performed an amazing gymnastic routine together) and Penelope (who sang a beautiful solo).
To celebrate VE Day we had a school picnic on the field, decorated the classroom with bunting and had a special assembly.
