Year 2 have been very busy bees already!
In History, we are learning about the importance of the RNLI to the Fylde Coast. Our key figure which we are studying is Grace Darling. We were so lucky to have Brenda from the RNLI come in and deliver a talk. She even brought in things which they wear during a rescue and let us try them on!
In English, we have been reading "The Pirates Next Door" by Jonny Duddle. We have used this to create our own story about a pirate character coming to Blackpool. He got into a LOT of sticky situations and even fought a giant octopus!
In Maths, we have looked at using equipment to represent two digit numbers. We have also studied the different units of measurement and even used measuring equipment in and out of the classroom!
In Art, we have been looking at creating a map about our local area. The children have been inspired by their journey to school.
In PE, we have been looking at playground games from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and lots of up to date games too.
Wow, what a month!
During health week, we took part in LOTS of different activities such as Taekwondo, UV dodgeball, Ultimate Frisbee and Yoga!
We also participated in a very busy sports day, where the sun was shining and everyone had fun.
A few highlights of this month are as follows:
In English, we have been using Aladdin to create a variety of different texts.
In Maths, we have used analogue clocks to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes.
In Geography, we have been looking at the importance of coastal areas and used Blackpool as a brilliant example.
In Art, we have used clay to make tiles.
This month, Year 2 have been busy!
Our highlights are as follows:
In English, we have loved working with 'Wind in the Willows' and writing our very own adventure for Mr Toad!
In Science, we have looked at how to keep a plant healthy and what a plant needs to survive.
In Maths, we have partitioned two digit numbers in MANY different ways!
In PE, we have developed our striking and fielding skills as well as improve our athletics skills in preparation for sports day!
We also have watched the fabulous Year 2 contestants in our very first Baines' Got Talent - Tallulah and Ophelia and Indie. We were so proud to see their acts (as well as all of the other acts!)
There has also been a delicious VE day picnic in the sunshine too!
